Early Bird Workshop - Saturday, May 31    6:30AM - 8:30AM

You read it right - 6:30AM. I don't know if any of you are early risers like me, beginning with some contemplation and yoga is a wonderful way to start the day, in my opinion. That's why I'm going to try an Early Bird Workshop and see who wants to join me! We may even do it outside. We will begin with a long period of seated meditation followed by pranayam. Then we will greet the sun with surya namaskar. The workshop will close with gentle chanting to send us on our way to a wonderful day. Imagine starting your day by focusing, breathing, stretching, and calming your mind. Ahhhh. Let's get started!

Cost: $25

Oh My Aching Back Workshop - Saturday, June 28     10 - 12 Noon

So many of us sit at at a computer all day or, for a number of other reasons, including tension and stress, just have lower back aches, stiff legs, hips that are tight. In this workshop we'll explore that region of the body and the various yoga poses you can do to help strengthen your lower body. Working with partners we will be able to get feedback about our movement and alignment. No experience is necessary.

Cost: $30       Pre-registration is required. Payment by check to Red Elephant Yoga or request an invoice through PayPal. You don't need to be a member to use this service. Other option is to phone direct and provide me with credit card information.

Mommy and Child Workshops - Ages 3-6 and 7-11

Why should babies only have workshops? With the weather getting warmer, I am going to have  yoga workshops for mom and child outdoors. Yoga is great for kids. It helps them get in touch not only with themselves, but also nature and the normal rhythms of life. It can encourage them to become gentle and kind. When older children practice yoga, it helps to keep their bones healthy and strong and their muscles flexible. The balancing poses can increase their mental focus and concentration and awaken their creativity. Doing the poses can also control and help release emotions. We will have fun doing the postures because so many of them have animal names and they will be able to imitate the animals in a fun, non-competitive activity.

For the younger yogis 3-6, we practice yoga through guided play which can involve their senses. It can also capture their imagination and helps them focus their attention. At this young age, they can begin to learn how to work in a group and cooperate with others.

Mommy and Me Workshop for 3-6 - Saturday, June 14, 9-10AM

With this younger group we will have fun doing poses that will strengthen their developing muscles and bone structures.

Cost: $20       Pre-registration is required. Payment by check to Red Elephant Yoga or request an invoice through PayPal. You don't need to be a member to use this service. Other option is to phone direct and provide me with credit card information.

Mommy and Me Workshop for 7-11 - Saturday, June 14, 10:30-11:30AM

With this older age group who are more developed physically, we will have fun looking at more dynamic yoga poses.

Cost: $20       Pre-registration is required. Payment by check to Red Elephant Yoga or request an invoice through PayPal. You don't need to be a member to use this service. Other option is to phone direct and provide me with credit card information.

First Saturday of every month - Red Elephant Yoga Study Group

First Saturday of every month, Red Elephant Yoga Study Group, 307 Holland Rd., Fuquay Varina, 10AM - Noon

Studying THE TREE OF YOGA

May Study Group

We held our first study group in the studio this month. Discussion was around the eight limbs of yoga, the koshas - or energy layers of an individual - and how we use all this information to help us in our yoga practice as well as in our daily lives. When "puppy mind" tempts us with melodrama, are we able to recognize it and get back on the yoga path? And why should we want to anyway? We also had an interesting discussion about "now" and "time". What is "now"? What does it mean to "be in the present"? Noodle that around and see what you think. It can make you a little crazy! And we listened to a fable about the origin of yoga - how a fish, Matseya, became a human and the first yoga teacher by following the eight yoga limbs. We are always starting something new, so please try it and see what it's like!

Until next month, Om Shanti - Peace!

New members always welcome
The study group is open to anyone who is interested in exploring yoga philosophy. There is no cost – just time – 2 hours every month. Please call Charlotte at 577-6623 for details. Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 7. We'd love to have you join us!

Study group background
The study group is using the book THE TREE OF YOGA by BKS Iyengar as a guide. I recommend that if you plan to join us, please purchase it.  We will be using it throughout the months to come. So, if you are interested in sharing in this adventure, please contact Charlotte at 577-6623 or through email at info@redelephantyoga.com.  The photos on this page are of a recently completed project - Designing Sand Mandalas. For several months the group broke into teams and worked meticuously on three separate boards, creating, designing and then finally, destroying their mandalas.

Hi Charlotte, I have been meaning to e-mail you to thank you for having George and I at your Mommy and baby class. George had an amazing nights sleep that evening where he slept for 10 hours which he has never done before. His regular pattern of sleep is 4 then 3. I am trying to fit in time to do exercises daily so he can sleep well.
Catherine, George's mommy
